Opening Day Monster Buck

November 20, 2010

It was opening day of gun season and I had been in my tree stand for about 4 hours. I had seen lots of deer and even passed up 3 bucks that I didn’t consider to be shooters. It was freezing so I went up to the house to get warm and to fix lunch for my hunting buddy, Uncle Jim. Within an hour I glanced out the kitchen window just in time to see this enormous rack walking out of the woods and across the yard towards my tree stand. I didn’t even have to look through the spotting scope to see that this was the biggest buck I had ever seen around our area. The thought of that buck being under my tree stand and me not being there was more than I could take. I knew if I took the time to get my hunting clothes and boots back on it might be too late. So I just reloaded my shotgun with my Lightfield 12 gauge slugs, snuck out onto the porch and took my shot. He bucked up and ran but not for long. I found him about 100 yards from where I took my shot. Needless to say I knew this was the buck of a lifetime – not bad for only my third year of hunting!
